Just because it has possibly the worst movie poster of the year shouldn't keep you from watching this adrenaline packed racing film.  Rush directed by Ron Howard with screenplay by Peter Morgan is based on the true story of the rivalry between legendary F1 racers James Hunt and Niki Lauda.  In particular, the film shows us how their rivalry builds up and reaches a climax during their epic battle for world championship during 1976.

Even if you're not a fan of this type of racing, which I am not, you'll find the intensity that Chris Hemsworth (James Hunt) and Daniel Bruhl (Niki Lauda) brings to that character will have you drawn in, in this compelling true story.  The cinematography is just amazing, especially the racing scenes, the cars speeding along the tracks and the rain pouring down.  To compare it to the Fast & Furious movies would be a big mistake, as the story is more character driven than the explosive, gun fighting action packed F&F franchise has become.  The sets for the scenes with the 1970s style clothing and cars and the hair styles really brings you back in time.

Normally with historical movies, while the story may be compelling, the people behind it may not be.  Flamboyant skirt chaser that James Hunt was in sharp contrast to the calculating and stand offish Nicki Lauda are both larger than life characters.  Their epic races as it unfolds it front of you and the impact of each and every race will have your attention glued to the screen even if you're not a racing enthusiast.  The score by the famed Hans Zimmer adds such intensity to the great film.

Overall, I would highly recommend this film to everyone.  The back and forth between the two great racers will make you a racing fan even if it's just for 2 hours and 3 minutes.  The race to the finish is a smooth ride even if it wasn't so for them.  The pacing by Ron Howard shows us how he is a step above most other Directors.  Don't walk, but race to the theaters to see this one.
