PG-13 | For sustained intense sequences of menace, some violence with bloody images, and for substance use.

Based on a true story, Captain Phillips will engross you into the world of Somali pirates and keep you captivated throughout the end.  The movie's first few minutes are mundane enough, but once Tom Hanks as Captain Phillips gets aboard you can just feel his anxiety and yours rise quickly.  We have all heard of these type of pirate stories before in the news, but to see it acted out in this thriller is amazing.

From beginning to end the acting, especially by the actors that plays the Somali pirates are award worthy.  I didn't like Tom Hanks in the beginning.  Partly because of the mundane driving scene to the airport.  Partly because of his accent that he tries to portray which just doesn't seem to fit in.  But as the story develops, you could not have found a more convincing actor to play this role.

While the story does gives you some insight to the plight of the would be captors.  I would have love to seen more of it.  The desperation they must feel to go from every day fisherman to pirates in search for more money that the criminals flash at them.  And if you're familiar with the true story to see it reenacted as only Hollywood can but yet still grip you and pull at your hearts is magical.

Overall, I would highly recommend this film.  It is one of the best movies, if not the best movie I've seen this year.  Gravity may win at the box office, but Captain Phillips may steal the awards when it counts.
