Episode 5 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. "Girl in the Flower Dress" showed us another side of Skye we haven't seen before.  Continuing from the first episode, we now know that the mysterious group behind the Extremis experiments is Project Centipede.  Definitely not the most interesting name and a bit of a letdown, when I have been hoping for more Marvel Universe continuity with either A.I.M. or Hydra.  Either groups may still be behind Centipede, and with the upcoming story arc of the Coulson's team being attacked, more may be revealed.

But the focus of this episode is on Chan Ho Yin or Scorch who is a Chinese street magician with the power to generate fire.  He's played by Louis Ozawa Changchien who is half Japanese and half Taiwanese, and asked to play a Cantonese speaking role.  This is notable in that it's very obvious that Cantonese is not his strong point due to his slow broken Cantonese dialogue.  As a Cantonese speaker it was painful to watch him speak.

Chan Ho Yin is approached by Raina (Ruth Negga), who works for Project Centipede and looks to be a recurrent character on the villains' side.  The reason they buddy up to Scorch is to get his blood palette that may lead to the ability to withstand the destructive power of Extremis on its hosts.

Another important side story of this episode is the prior life of Skye with her relationship with another Red Tide hacker named Miles.  From this episode and some of the other episodes it's apparent that they're trying to sell Skye as the sexy vixen of the group.  But having her hook up with an old flame like that just cheapens her character.

Overall, the episode is a bit of a disappointment.  The only point really to get from this episode is the last five minutes where we finally learn Skye's real reason for joining the group and what's she been holding out on.  And that is she's out to find her real parents who from a document that has been mostly blacked out appears to be associated with S.H.I.E.L.D. in some way.
