I can't help but be excited that they're making a live action Kiki's Delivery Service.  One of my daughter's favorite Studio Ghibli animations of the same name based on the books by Eiko Kadono.  Miyazaki's adapation focuses on the first volume by Eiko, while the live action is supposedly based on the first two volumes.  Eiko's book series has six volumes in total.

If you're not familiar with the story, it is a coming of age story of a young teenage witch named Kiki (Fūka Koshiba).  She spends a year living on her own with her magic and her black cat Gigi.  The live action film is set to be released in Japan in March 1st of 2014.  No word yet if it'll be coming to the United States.  The film will be directed by The Grudge's Director Takashi Shimizu.

Besides Kiki's Delivery Service, anime fans also can look forward to the continuation of the Rurouni Kenshin live action films in 2014.  There are expected to be two parts.  The original live action was released in 2012, based on the anime and manga from the mid to late 1990's.  Of course the anime, I want most adapted to live action is Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira which has been stuck in limbo for ages.  Warner Bros. owns the rights to Akira.  Filming could possibly begin in 2014, but of course they have said that many times before.

What Japanese animation would you want to see adapted to live action?
