2 Guns is hands down one of the funnest film you could watch this summer. The story is quite preposterous but the two veterans, Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg delivers both on the action and humor. This movie will stir memories of movies like Lethal Weapon, Bad Boys and Die Hard.
The two fellows unbeknownst to each other, are both undercover government agents, one for the DEA and the other Naval intelligence. They are both tricked into robbing a bank that they believed to hold several million dollars of a known drug cartel kingpin played by Edward James Olmos. The duo has to put aside their differences and new mistrust of each other to try to clear their name while trying to avoid being killed by numerous parties.
I particularly enjoyed the cinematography in the beginning of the film with the flashbacks between the diner and the present. The charisma of Mark Wahlberg delivers with wink he gives. Even at his "Chica", the heavy set drug cartel member he shows off his sharp shooting skills to. For this movie I was fully expecting something similar to Training Day and was pleasantly surprise. We see various shades of Denzel in this which I'm sure, female fans will enjoy. In particular, a lady at the screening I attended who went to pick up her ticket was asked was asked if she was here for 2 Guns. She replied no, I'm here for the Denzel Washington movie. Hah!
Overall, if you can't already tell I would highly recommend this film. It's a fun movie peppered with some strong violence. The movies are not without its flaws. I wasn't particularly a fan of Paula Patton as she was unconvincing in her performance. Also as I've said before a lot of the plot is quite preposterous but only adds to the humor of the film in a Pain & Gain type of way. It's out tomorrow evening, judge so for yourself if this is the summer blockbuster of the year. I think it's definitely worthy of being nominated for that title.
