Review by Stephen M.

Mr. Church is a harm warming story of a cook who goes by Mr Church (Eddie Murphy) that enters the lives of a mother and daughter at the request of the mother's ex-boyfriend now deceased who was also the employer of Mr Church.  His commitment was for six months wound up being years making it a tale of family, friendship and the bonds that develop over time.  To say that the movie had several tear jerking moments would not be an exaggeration.  Eddie Murphy shows that in the right movie he still is one of Hollywood's best veteran actors even when it's not in a comedic film.

One of the strengths of the movie is the amazing performances by all of the cast.  Besides Eddie, I also enjoyed Brittany Robertson and Natascha McElhone.  As I have said the film is one brimming with emotions and in some parts physicality in displaying illness and the cast did a phenomenal job.  The only fault I would find with the film is the length of the story telling.  1 hr 44 mins is not really long for a featured film however the pacing at times dragged a little considering the Director's detail to the transition in the daughter's life from child to teenager to young adult.

Overall I highly recommend the film which is till playing at the TriBeCa Film Festival.  In fact we have a single ticket to give away for Sunday evening performance (6:30pm).  Just comment below your full name and favorite Eddie Murphy film and why and a winner will be randomly selected by 11pm ET tonight.  If you don't win I would still recommend going perhaps with a box of tissues even.
