Negan who was just introduced in the season finale of the Walking Dead has been a long standing nemesis of Rick Grimes and company since the fall of The Governor in the comic book series. Little has been known about the origins of the loud mouth charismatic psychopath til now. In Image Comics' new preview magazine, creator Robert Kirkman and longtime Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard takes us to the days before all hell breaks loose in the Negan household. Five pages long including a title page and a page featuring Negan's trusty companion, Lucille getting barb wired up for the first time, this is essentially a three page story.
Incredibly short as it is, it gives us a good look of Negan's personality before the change with the art as usual spot on for the type of character driven story that Kirkman loves to tell. Even with three pages, we get a cliffhanger that has you eagerly anticipating the next Image+ preview magazine. While the obvious reason to pick up the magazine is the first appearance of Negan's wife and his origin story, the magazine is also full of other short stories, interviews and previews that makes the book well worth the standalone price of $1.99. Pick it up while you still can at your local comic store.
